Education -Community
EDUCATION, COMMUNITY, YOUTH WORK / WORKSHOPS
As a freelance drama practitioner and educator, I have worked and work regularly with institutions and organisations such as The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow City Council, Primus Youth Theatre, Word and Action, Quandam Youth theatre and Eden Mencap, amongst others, as a director, tutor and workshop writer / leader.
I recognise and am passionate about the importance of drama as a tool for learning, exploration and expression, within a variety of different social, educational and community contexts.
It is an incredibly effective and valuable experience in allowing people of all ages and background to explore issues relevant to their own lives, increasing their understanding and awareness of who they are and the world around them.
WORKSHOP WRITER / DELIVERER
As a workshop writer & leader I ensure that the drama workshop programmes I deliver are tailored to meet the needs of the group I am working with. Taking into consideration the desired outcomes, ability, age and experience and most importunately the themes and issues that are of particular relevance to that group.

EXAMPLES OF PAST/ CURRENT PROJECTS
In July 2004 I directed a performance project in the Lake District , Flesh and Blood, which was a collaboration between Primus Youth Theatre and a self injury support group in Carlisle. Co written by myself and Dawn Coates this performance explored the issues, misconceptions., taboos and personal experieneces of self harmers.
From Jan- June 2005 I wrote and delivered a series of workshops for 8-10 year olds, in a variety of schools around Glasgow, on behalf of Glasgow City Council's Zone 5 programme. The 2 part workshop use drama and play as a way of increasing young people's knowledge, awareness and understandings of the communities they live in and their external enviroments. Then their internal enviroments, the human body, nutrition and health, in a fun and practical way.
2005/2006, I co-directed a series of micro-performances at the Arches theatre, as part of Glasgow' s Shakespeare in the City Festival, with students of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Youthworks programme, and Ashcraig secondary school, Glasgows leading secondary school for young people with physical and learning disabilities. This is an annual project and a collaboration with Birds of Paradise theatre company and the RSAMD youthworks drama.

Her ability to guide, motivate and lead the support worker team; her understanding of boundaries and the confident way in which Kate delivered the activities all outstanding! I cannot stress enough how positive Kate’s involvement was with our group.
